Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is often experienced as intense physical and emotional symptoms in the lead-up to menstruation, typically during the luteal phase. These changes are real and valid, yet they can feel isolating and misunderstood in a world that often demands constant productivity, conformity and emotional steadiness. For many people, PMDD amplifies everyday challenges, creating a cycle in which the weight of past difficult days and the anticipation of upcoming ones leave little reprieve.

I use an adaptive, integrative approach often drawing on CBT and mindfulness to help people build structure, coping strategies, and a sense of agency during symptom peaks. Practical scaffolding such as planning, pacing, and self-care routines can make symptoms more tolerable and help us feel more in control of our cycles. In psychotherapy therapy, it can become possible to develop a increased understanding or our hormonal cycle, manage symptoms with greater self-compassion, and move towards an experience of PMDD that is navigable rather than entirely overwhelming.
