PTSD and Post-Traumatic Stress

Post-Traumatic Stress and PTSD can leave people with specific symptoms such as flashbacks, intrusive memories, hyper-vigilance, and avoidance. Both Post-Traumatic Stress and PTSD can leave us feeling disconnected or overwhelmed by memories and emotions. It is often linked to a single event but can also coexist with complex, or more long-standing trauma.

In my work, I take an integrative approach to supporting people with post-traumatic stress and PTSD. This may include strategies from Trauma-Focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and exposure and response therapy (ERP), alongside grounding skills to help manage distress in daily life. Therapy provides an opportunity for experiences to be processed at a pace that feels manageable, allowing patterns of re-experiencing, avoidance, and hyperarousal to be understood and gradually eased.

Recovery from post-traumatic stress is not always linear; progress can feel slow or uneven. However, even small steps can help support reconnection with the present. Psychotherapy can often help people experiencing post-traumatic stress to gradually regain a sense of safety and agency in their lives.
