OCD and Obsessive Compulsive Experiences

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often experienced as unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images, or urges. This can also frequently result in a feeling of needing to act in specific ways through behaviours or mental rituals to relieve the anxiety these intrusions bring. Living with OCD can feel baffling, exhausting, and isolating, and it is common to question one’s own sense of control or self. The patterns of obsessions and compulsions can often reflect deeper fears, conflicts, or vulnerabilities that seek acknowledgment.

I take an integrative approach to supporting people with OCD, often using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) alongside adapted CBT strategies. The approach is tailored to what feels manageable and realistic for each individual. Therapy provides a safe space to gradually face the fears that drive OCD, notice patterns, and learn that often some anxiety can be lived through rather than avoided. The aim is to support people to feel more in control, see a reduction in distressing rituals, and find greater space for life beyond OCD.
